Donation to Ukranian Relief

We have donated €1,010.70 to the official Portuguese fund for Ukranian war relief. This came about from various activities during the latter part of the year, including individual donations, raffles at various events and fines for wrong bias etc!

Dear Alan, Please accept our sincere gratitude for your donation of 1010 €. A generous contribution of yours and the Committee is a true Christmas gift for the Ukrainian families and their children.  Because of you, it will be possible for the refugee families to keep the babies warm and clean, to have necessary nutrition and to safely celebrate Christmas.Your generosity gives the Ukrainians necessary support and confidence in people around.Have a joyous and blessed Christmas!

FUN BOWLS 13th NOVEMBER

Members enjoyed a morning of fun bowls on Sunday 13th November. Winners, by a two shot margin, were Alan Camplin-Smith, Jan Wilson and Evelyn Oliver.
Then followed lunch at the Wander Inn, at which a raffle raised the splendid sum of €185 which will go the Ukraine Relief fund. Some more pictures, thanks to Rose Noonan for taking them. Click or tap a picture to see full size. It was a bit dark at the start!

CRAZY GOLF 31st OCTOBER

Members enjoyed a round of crazy golf at Family Golf in Vilamoura. Luckily, the afternoon was dry after a very wet morning and all went well. There was a four way tie for first place, medals will be held over until next time!

A raffle held afterwards raised €255 for our chosen charity, the Ukraine relief fund.

TOUR SIDE DATES OCTOBER 2022

All who have paid the €10 annual fee to be a member of Balaia Bowls Club are bona-fide members of the club.
This expires on 3oth September 2022 - see below for change in renewals.

Members are eligible to play in Club competitions, represent the Club in League matches and enjoy our social events.

For actual play, you can choose to pay Balaia Golf Village as below :

Unlimited play, one person : 1 month €50, 6 months €270 or 12 months €435. There is a discount of about 35% for a joint husband / wife ticket
For those who wish to 'pay as you go' it's €10 per game. All payments include home league matches and roll-ups.
For away League matches we pay a fixed fee of €8 per game.

What you pay to Balaia Golf for a month, six months or a year's unlimited bowling does NOT include membership of Balaia Bowls Club.

Decisions etc have been circulated to all members. These concern rule changes required by the change in operations at Balaia Golf Club and some minor amendments to various rules proposed by the Committee. Key points - A new Committee was elected - details here. The club 'year' will be adjusted to run from 1st April to 31st March, with the AGM to be be held in March. There will not be an AGM in March 2023. The current committee will therefore serve until March 2024. The club subscription is adjusted to suit thus : €5 payable for membership 1st October 2022 to 31st March 2023 €10 payable for membership 1st April 2023 to 31st March 2024 TUESDAY AND FRIDAY 'ROLL-UPS' Meet at 0945 for 1000am start. Don't be late! Numbers are growing. If you arrive later than 0945 we cannot guarantee you a game. VISITORS PAY € 10 PER GAME. PAYMENT BY CASH OR CARD AT GOLF CLUB RECEPTION SESSIONS LAST ABOUT TWO HOURS PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SHOES WITH RIDGED OR PIMPLED SOLES ON THE GREEN. MINI GOLF TOURNAMENT WEDNESDAY 30th MARCH 20 members took part in a mini golf competition at Albufeira mini-golf in Rua Dunfermline. Men's winner was Peter Moss, Ladies winner Jill Dunkey wearing her special golf trousers. At the other end of the scale, the Ladies wooden spoon went to Maggie Inkster and the men's to (I forget now)... Thanks to Pauline Denyer for organising, to Brian Denyer and Janice Hartley for keeping things in order on the day. BOWLS ALGARVE INTERCLUB COMPETITIONS UPDATE 3rd MARCH Another day of high quality bowling. The morning weather was a complete contrast to the previous day with a stoppage for heavy rain of about half an hour. Once again there was decent crowd watching, in the afternoon at least! Results : Open Pairs Kinane and Sutton (Floresta) beat Gooch and Malin (Pedras) 14-13, which went to 19 ends, Humphreys and Hargreaves (Floresta) lost to Le Poidevin and Kunprom (Valverde) 9- 21. In the afternoon triples, Humphreys & Co beat Jackson & Co (both Floresta) 21 - 9, Gooch & Co (Pedras) beat Frampton & Co (Valverde) 21 - 8 Some pictures - click or tap to see in a larger size. BOWLS ALGARVE INTERCLUB COMPETITIONS UPDATE 2nd MARCH The club is proud to be hosting the semi-finals of the Bowls Algarve Interclub competitions. Frances Reynolds met George Humphreys in the open singles semi-final. Unfortunately for Frances, George was on top form and finished the winner by 21-4. It was a warm, sunny day. A good crowd stayed for the afternoon. The other singles semi final was a tightly contested and high quality game between Geoff Hargreaves of Floresta and Eddie Vine of Pedras. Both played excellent bowls with Geoff winning 21-17 with a superb final shot. The morning Australian pairs semi-final results Sue Jones and Jan Paul (Alvor) 9 - 20 George Humphries and Geoff Hargreaves (Floresta) Nick Gooch and Mark Richards (Pedras) 17 - 13 Paul and Jenny Sutton (Floresta) A bit of a contrast to the weather as I write! A game in which she was at one point 11-3 down then won 9 consecutive ends to be 19 - 11 ahead! The winning points were scored in the 22nd end.
