Christmas Lunch 2021
A very good afternoon was had by all at restaurant O
Lavrador, up in the hills beyond Boliqueime in the village
of Tenoca. A restaurant thoroughly recommended. Location

I hope to have some pictures soon! The raffle raised the
splendid sum of €230,50 which will go to our chosen
charity, the children's home A Gaivota in Albufeira.
Bowls Algarve Interclub update
Open Singles - Frances Reynolds won her first round
singles match 21 - 13. A game in which she was at one
point 11-3 down then won 9 consecutive ends to be 19 - 11
ahead!
The winning points were scored in the 22nd end. Frances
will have a home tie in the second round, to be played in
the New Year.
Open Pairs - Alan Camplin-Smith and Jill Dunkey will be
at home to Gerry Kinane and Paul Sutton of Floresta, date
to be arranged
Alison Wooding and Peter King will also be at home in the
Open Pairs, hosting John London and Steve Moore of Pedras,
date to be arranged.
Open Australian Pairs - our representatives Alison Wooding
and Peter King were eliminated in the preliminary round
Open Triples - Frances Reynolds, Tom Allen and Ian
Maddison lost their preliminary round match 20 - 13.
REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY TOURNAMENT 14th NOVEMBER
Eighteen players took part in our Remembrance Sunday
competition as six triples, each triple playing the other
five in a quick-fire round robin totalling 20 ends.
Winners were Gabriel Noonan, Vicky Maddison and Tony
Parkes. I have pictures being sent from several people and
will hope to have these on view by Wednesday late
afternoon.
The day ended with presentations over lunch at the Wander
Inn. A raffle raised €210 for our current charity, the 'A
Gaivota' children's home in Albufeira.

A successful day in the Bowls Algarve Interclub
competitions Wednesday 27th October
In the morning, Alan Camplin-Smith and Jill Dunkey had a
tough game in the open pairs against Dave Bridgewater and
Graham Hurrtage from Floresta, which went to the very last
shot of the final end.
It was 14 - 14 after 17 ends of a closely fought
match. In that final end, the lead changed hands
four times. That very last shot from Alan was perfect and
the pair from Balaia finished 17 - 14 winners.
In the afternoon, Alison Wooding and Peter King met
Richard and Lynn King from Floresta. Alison and Peter
raced into an early 9-0 lead but then had to work hard
keep their noses in front with their
opponents nibbling away at the lead. But a good final
couple of ends saw our pair winning by 21-11.
Those were Preliminary Round matches. Both pairs now pass
into the First Round, which will be played between 22nd
November and 12th January 2022.
And another victory to report! Frances Reynolds won her
singles Interclub singles preliminary round match on
Thursday 28th October.

This was held on WEDNESDAY 13th OCTOBER at Balaia Golf
Club at 11:00am.

Club Competitions Winter 2021 - 2022
The Dean's
Cup (drawn pairs, as a league) is to be played over
the winter months.
In the New Year it is proposed to hold these competitions :
The Sanderson Cup (Ladies Pairs), a mixed Doubles (ladies
choose your partners) and a Men's Doubles.
You must be a paid up member of Balaia Bowls Club to enter
our Competitions
Bowls Algarve Competitions Winter 2021 - 2022
The Club will be playing in the Bowls Algarve winter league
which started on 9th October. There will be eighteen matches
to be played.
League matches are on Saturday mornings. Fixture list here.
If you are new to the area and wish to play regularly, it
costs only €10 to join our club for a year. Come to a rollup
and meet the people!
You must be a bona-fide club member to be eligible for Bowls
Algarve Competitions.
The various inter-club competitions for singles, pairs and
triples will be played from mid October.

Members are being
consulted about a change to 1030 or 1100am. Please check back if you are coming later in

at least the day before.
It's not the end of the world if you cannot, but it's nice
to have an idea of who is likely to come along.
Bowls of various sizes and shoes are available for
visitors who need them.
It has been agreed with our hosts Balaia
Golf Village that all users accept that they use the
facilities at their own risk.
From 1st December 2021 and until further notice, masks
MUST be worn at all times within the clubhouse.
To comply with the law, a valid vaccination certificate
must be shown if you sit INSIDE the clubhouse to eat or
drink.
However there are no specific conditions
for playing bowls. Sanitising liquids are available if
you don't have your own.
All arrangements are subject to continuous
review. Please check back here if planning to be
in Albufeira later.

Balaia Bowls Club membership clarification
All who have paid the €10 annual fee to be a member of
Balaia Bowls Club are bona-fide members of the club.
These members are eligible to play in club competitions
and represent the Club in League matches.
For actual play, you can choose to pay Balaia Golf
Viillage as below :
Unlimited play, one person : -1 month €50, 6 months €270
or 12 months €435. There is a discount of about 35% for a
joint husband / wife ticket
For those who wish to 'pay as you go' it's €10 per game.
What you pay to Balaia Golf for a month, six months or a
year's unlimited bowling does NOT infer membership of
Balaia Bowls Club.
FOOTGOLF Sunday 23rd May
A group of members enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at
Footgolf. Don't know what that is? Very popular in the USA
and becoming so elsewhere. Footgolf website here.
On a 9 hole par 36 course of about 540 yards, winner was
Ian Maddison with a very creditable 37. Second came Peter
King on 43.
There was a three way tie for third, Tom Allen, Jill
Dunkey and Pat Camplin-Smith scoring 44.
The day was rounded off by a pleasant meal at Uzonj in
Albufeira.

Balaia 1 - 2 CPO on triples, CPO won by
four shots overall.
CHARITY SUPPORT
The club continues to support the children's home 'A
Gaivota' however with cash flow currently zero we have
only reserves of about €1400 raised early in 2020. They
have made few requests recently.
A dentist bill of €340 has recently been paid.
